GSA Practice Set 10 – General Science & Ability (20 Original MCQs Explained)
This is GSA Practice Set 10 — 20 original MCQs for General Science & Ability: 10 General Science (planets, chemistry, human body) + 10 General Ability (blood, vitamins, organs, cells). Attempt all 20 in 25 minutes without looking at the answers, then check the explained answers and review your weak section. These are original practice questions, not copied from FPSC papers or competitor question banks, and this site is not affiliated with FPSC. Scoring: 18–20 = strong. 15–17 = good. 12–14 = fair, revise the sections you missed. Below 12 = study the weak-section review, then re-attempt in 2 days.

Answer Key + Explained Answers:
Q1 – B) Mars. Mars is known as the Red Planet (iron oxide / rust on its surface). Venus is the Morning Star, Jupiter is largest, Saturn is Ringed.
Q2 – B) Venus. Venus is known as the Morning Star (and Evening Star) — it is bright in the morning sky. Mars is Red Planet, Mercury is fastest, Jupiter is largest.
Q3 – B) Saturn. Saturn is known as the Ringed Planet (prominent rings). Jupiter has faint rings, Uranus and Neptune have rings, but Saturn’s are most prominent.
Q4 – B) Venus. Venus is the brightest planet in the night sky (brightest after Sun and Moon). Mars is red, Mercury is dim, Jupiter is bright but less than Venus.
Q5 – A) Mercury. Mercury is the fastest planet (shortest orbital period — 88 days, closest to Sun). Venus is 225 days, Earth 365 days, Mars 687 days.
Q6 – B) NaCl. Common salt (sodium chloride) = NaCl. KCl is potassium chloride, CaCl2 is calcium chloride, Na2CO3 is sodium carbonate.
Q7 – C) H2SO4. Sulphuric acid = H2SO4. HCl is hydrochloric acid, HNO3 is nitric acid, H3PO4 is phosphoric acid.
Q8 – B) Cu. Copper’s symbol is Cu (from Latin cuprum). Co is cobalt, Cr is chromium, C is carbon.
Q9 – A) Zn. Zinc’s symbol is Zn. Zr is zirconium, Z is not a symbol, Sn is tin.
Q10 – A) Al. Aluminium’s symbol is Al. Am is americium, A is not a symbol, Ag is silver.
Q11 – C) O negative. O negative is the universal donor (can give to all blood groups, as it has no A/B/Rh antigens). AB positive is universal recipient; AB negative is not universal donor; O positive can give to Rh-positive groups only.
Q12 – A) AB positive. AB positive is the universal recipient (can receive from all blood groups, as it has A/B/Rh antigens). AB negative can receive Rh-negative only; O negative is universal donor; O positive is not universal recipient.
Q13 – C) Vitamin C. Vitamin C prevents scurvy (bleeding gums, weak connective tissue). Vitamin A is for vision, B for energy, D for bones — none prevent scurvy.
Q14 – B) Calcium. Calcium is essential for strong bones and teeth. Iron is for blood, zinc for immunity, iodine for thyroid — none are essential for bones.
Q15 – B) Kidney. Kidney filters blood (removes waste, excess water). Liver filters toxins / produces bile, heart pumps blood, lung exchanges gases — none filter blood (as kidney does).
Q16 – B) Pancreas. Pancreas produces insulin (regulates blood sugar). Liver produces bile, spleen filters blood / immune, gallbladder stores bile — none produce insulin.
Q17 – A) Stapes. Stapes (in the middle ear) is the smallest bone in the human body. Femur is longest, humerus is arm bone, tibia is shin bone — all larger.
Q18 – C) 206. The adult human body has 206 bones. Babies have about 300 bones (some fuse). 196, 200, and 216 are incorrect.
Q19 – C) Leaf. Leaf makes food (photosynthesis — chlorophyll in leaves). Root absorbs water, stem transports, flower reproduces — none make food.
Q20 – C) Mitochondria. Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell (produces energy / ATP). Nucleus controls cell, ribosome makes proteins, Golgi body packages — none produce energy.
Weak-Section Review:
Which part did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise planets (Mars Red, Venus Morning Star / brightest, Saturn Ringed, Mercury fastest), chemistry (NaCl salt, H2SO4 sulphuric acid, Cu copper, Zn zinc, Al aluminium), human body (O negative donor, AB positive recipient, Vitamin C scurvy, Calcium bones, Kidney filters blood, Pancreas insulin, Stapes smallest bone, 206 bones, Leaf makes food, Mitochondria powerhouse). Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
