Answer Key + Explained Answers
Q1 – C) Carbon dioxide. Plants use carbon dioxide (CO2) + water + sunlight to make food (photosynthesis). They release oxygen. Nitrogen and hydrogen are not used in photosynthesis.
Q2 – B) H2O. Water = H2O (2 hydrogen + 1 oxygen). CO2 = carbon dioxide, NaCl = salt, O2 = oxygen gas.
Q3 – C) Heart. The heart pumps blood around the body. Liver filters toxins / produces bile; kidney filters blood / produces urine; lung oxygenates blood.
Q4 – C) Jupiter. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. Saturn is second largest, Earth fifth, Neptune fourth.
Q5 – B) Sunlight. Sunlight is the main source of vitamin D — skin makes vitamin D from sunlight. Food (fish, eggs) provides some, but sunlight is the main source. Water and air do not provide vitamin D.
Q6 – D) Newton. Newton (N) is the SI unit of force. Joule = energy, Watt = power, Pascal = pressure.
Q7 – C) Cheetah. The cheetah is the fastest land animal (about 60–70 km/h). Lion, horse, and deer are slower.
Q8 – B) Au. Gold = Au (from Latin Aurum). Ag = silver, Gd = gadolinium, Go is not a symbol.
Q9 – B) Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants make food (CO2 + water + sunlight → glucose + oxygen). Respiration is breathing / energy release; digestion is breaking down food; transpiration is water loss from leaves.
Q10 – C) 100°C. Water boils at 100°C at sea level (standard atmospheric pressure). At higher altitudes, it boils at a lower temperature.
Q11 – B) Rs 25. One pencil = 100 ÷ 4 = Rs 25.
Q12 – C) 100. 25% of 400 = 0.25 × 400 = 100.
Q13 – C) 6. 5x + 10 = 40 → 5x = 30 → x = 6.
Q14 – C) 48. Each term doubles: 3 × 2 = 6, 6 × 2 = 12, 12 × 2 = 24, 24 × 2 = 48. (72 is 24 × 3, not doubling.)
Q15 – C) 40 sq cm. Area of rectangle = length × width = 8 × 5 = 40 sq cm. (26 is perimeter: 2 × (8 + 5) = 26 cm.)
Q16 – B) 37. Prime = has only 1 and itself as factors. 37 is prime. 36 = 6 × 6, 38 = 2 × 19, 40 = 4 × 10 — all composite.
Q17 – C) 25. a : b = 2 : 5 means b = (5/2) × a = (5/2) × 10 = 25.
Q18 – B) 44. Even numbers are divisible by 2. 44 is even. 43, 45, 47 are odd.
Q19 – C) 20. Average = (10 + 20 + 30) ÷ 3 = 60 ÷ 3 = 20.
Q20 – C) 60 km/h. Speed = distance ÷ time = 240 ÷ 4 = 60 km/h.
Weak-Section Review
Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. Science: revise photosynthesis (CO2 in, O2 out), formulas (H2O water), organs (heart pumps), planets (Jupiter largest), vitamins (D = sunlight), units (Newton force), animals (cheetah fastest), symbols (Au gold), boiling point (100°C). Ability: revise unitary method, percentages, algebra, doubling series, area vs perimeter, prime vs composite, ratios, even vs odd, averages, speed = distance ÷ time. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
