Answer Key + Explained Answers

Q1 – B) Fe. Iron = Fe (from Latin Ferrum). Ir = iridium, In = indium, Io is not a symbol.

Q2 – B) Blue whale. The blue whale is the largest mammal (and largest animal) in the world (up to ~30 m, ~150 tonnes). African elephant is largest land mammal; giraffe is tallest; hippo is large but smaller.

Q3 – C) Nitrogen. Air is about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% other gases (argon, CO2, etc.). Oxygen is second, not first; CO2 is ~0.04%; hydrogen is trace.

Q4 – C) Joule. Joule (J) is the unit of energy. Newton = force, Watt = power, Pascal = pressure.

Q5 – D) Kidney. Kidneys filter blood and produce urine. Liver filters toxins / produces bile; heart pumps blood; lung oxygenates blood.

Q6 – C) Carbon dioxide. Humans exhale carbon dioxide (CO2) and inhale oxygen. Nitrogen is inhaled and exhaled unchanged; hydrogen is not exhaled.

Q7 – A) Vitamin A. Night blindness = Vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin B = beriberi; C = scurvy; D = rickets.

Q8 – C) Mercury. Mercury is closest to the Sun. Order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.

Q9 – B) NaCl. Common salt (sodium chloride) = NaCl. KCl = potassium chloride, CaCl2 = calcium chloride, NaOH = sodium hydroxide (caustic soda).

Q10 – D) AB positive. AB positive (AB+) is the universal recipient (can receive from all groups, as it has A, B, and Rh antigens). O negative is universal donor. O positive and AB negative are not universal recipients.

Q11 – C) Rs 480. 6 × 80 = 480.

Q12 – C) 100. 50% of 200 = 0.50 × 200 = 100.

Q13 – C) 7. 6x – 12 = 30 → 6x = 42 → x = 7.

Q14 – C) 64. Each term doubles: 4 × 2 = 8, 8 × 2 = 16, 16 × 2 = 32, 32 × 2 = 64. (128 is two steps ahead.)

Q15 – C) 49 sq cm. Area of square = side × side = 7 × 7 = 49 sq cm. (28 is perimeter: 4 × 7 = 28 cm.)

Q16 – B) 39. Odd numbers are not divisible by 2. 39 is odd. 38, 40, 42 are even.

Q17 – B) 5. a : b = 1 : 3 means a = (1/3) × b = 15 ÷ 3 = 5.

Q18 – B) 25. Composite = has factors besides 1 and itself. 25 = 5 × 5. 23, 29, 31 are prime.

Q19 – B) 8. Average = (4 + 8 + 12) ÷ 3 = 24 ÷ 3 = 8.

Q20 – C) 60 km/h. Speed = distance ÷ time = 300 ÷ 5 = 60 km/h.

Weak-Section Review

Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. Science: revise symbols (Fe iron, NaCl salt), gases (nitrogen 78% of air, CO2 exhaled), units (Joule energy, Newton force), organs (kidney filters), vitamins (A = night blindness), planets (Mercury closest), blood groups (AB+ universal recipient, O– universal donor). Ability: revise percentages, ratios, averages, speed = distance ÷ time, area vs perimeter, doubling series, prime vs composite, odd vs even. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
