Answer Key + Explained Answers:
Q1 – C) Carbon dioxide. Humans exhale carbon dioxide (and inhale oxygen). Oxygen is inhaled, nitrogen is inert, hydrogen is trace.
Q2 – C) Mercury. Mercury is the smallest planet. Mars is larger, Venus is larger, Pluto is a dwarf planet (not a planet).
Q3 – D) Vitamin D. Sunlight helps the body produce Vitamin D (skin). Vitamin A (vision), B (energy), C (citrus) are not produced by sunlight.
Q4 – B) Red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen (haemoglobin). White blood cells fight infection, platelets clot blood, plasma is the fluid.
Q5 – B) H2O. Water is H2O (2 hydrogen + 1 oxygen). CO2 is carbon dioxide, NaCl is salt, O2 is oxygen.
Q6 – C) Eye. Eye is used for seeing. Ear hears, nose smells, tongue tastes.
Q7 – C) Pacific Ocean. Pacific is the largest ocean. Atlantic is second, Indian is third, Arctic is smallest.
Q8 – B) Honey. Bees produce honey. Milk comes from mammals, silk from silkworms, wax is also produced by bees but “wax only” is incomplete — honey is the main product.
Q9 – C) Dog. Dog is known as “man’s best friend” (loyal companion). Cat, horse, and parrot are not given this title.
Q10 – D) 100°C. Water boils at 100°C (212°F) at sea level. 0°C is freezing, 50°C is warm, 90°C is hot but not boiling.
Q11 – C) Rs 20. One pen = 100 divided by 5 = Rs 20.
Q12 – C) 15. Each term adds 3: 3 + 3 = 6, 6 + 3 = 9, 9 + 3 = 12, 12 + 3 = 15. (13, 14, 16 are not +3.)
Q13 – C) 50. 10% of 500 = 0.10 × 500 = 50.
Q14 – B) 7. y + 5 = 12, so y = 12 – 5 = 7.
Q15 – C) 81. 9 squared = 9 × 9 = 81. (18 = 9 × 2, 27 = 9 × 3, 90 is not a square.)
Q16 – C) 27. 3 cubed = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27. (9 = 3 squared, 18 and 33 are not cubes of 3.)
Q17 – B) 5. A pentagon has 5 sides (penta = five). Quadrilateral has 4, hexagon has 6, heptagon has 7.
Q18 – B) 60. 1 minute = 60 seconds.
Q19 – C) 75. 30 + 45 = 75.
Q20 – B) 115. 200 – 85 = 115.
Weak-Section Review:
Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise CO2 (exhaled), Mercury (smallest planet), Vitamin D (sunlight), red blood cells (oxygen), H2O (water), eye (seeing), Pacific (largest ocean), honey (bees), dog (man’s best friend), 100°C (boiling). General Ability: practise unitary method, +3 series, percentages, algebra, squares / cubes, shapes (pentagon 5), time (1 minute = 60 sec), addition / subtraction. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
