Answer Key + Explained Answers:
Q1 – B) O. The chemical symbol for oxygen is O. “O2” is the molecule (two oxygen atoms); “Ox” and “Og” are not symbols (Og is Oganesson).
Q2 – A) H2O. Water is H2O (two hydrogen + one oxygen). CO2 is carbon dioxide, NaCl is common salt, O2 is oxygen gas.
Q3 – B) Au. Gold is Au (from Latin “aurum” = gold). Ag is silver, Gd is gadolinium, “Go” is not a symbol.
Q4 – C) Carbon dioxide. Plants absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) for photosynthesis and release oxygen. Oxygen is released, not absorbed; nitrogen and hydrogen are not the main gas absorbed for photosynthesis.
Q5 – B) Mercury. Mercury is closest to the Sun, then Venus, Earth, Mars. (Venus is second, Earth third, Mars fourth.)
Q6 – B) Saturn. Saturn has the most confirmed moons (146 as of recent counts, more than Jupiter’s 95+). Mars has 2, Neptune has 16. Note: counts change as new moons are confirmed — Saturn leads as of recent counts.
Q7 – C) Mitochondria. Mitochondria produce energy (ATP) — the powerhouse of the cell. Nucleus controls, ribosome makes proteins, Golgi body packages.
Q8 – C) 100°C. Water boils at 100°C (212°F) at sea level (standard atmospheric pressure). At higher altitude, boiling point is lower. 90°C / 95°C are below boiling; 120°C is above.
Q9 – D) Vitamin D. Vitamin D is produced in skin by sunlight (UV). Vitamin A (vision), B (energy), C (immunity) are not produced by sunlight.
Q10 – C) Heart. The heart pumps blood around the body. Liver detoxifies, lungs exchange gases, kidneys filter blood.
Q11 – B) Rs 10. One pen = 60 ÷ 6 = Rs 10.
Q12 – C) 25. Each term adds 5: 5 + 5 = 10, 10 + 5 = 15, 15 + 5 = 20, 20 + 5 = 25. (22, 24, 30 are not +5.)
Q13 – C) 50. 10% of 500 = 0.10 × 500 = 50.
Q14 – C) 7. x + 5 = 12 → x = 12 – 5 = 7.
Q15 – C) 81. 9² = 9 × 9 = 81. (18 = 9 × 2, 27 = 9 × 3, 99 is not a square.)
Q16 – B) 27. 3³ = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27. (9 = 3², 33 and 81 are not cubes of 3.)
Q17 – B) Red blood cells. Red blood cells (RBCs) carry oxygen (via haemoglobin). White blood cells fight infection, platelets clot blood, plasma is the fluid.
Q18 – D) Ampere. Ampere (A) is the SI unit of electric current. Volt = voltage, Ohm = resistance, Watt = power.
Q19 – B) Watt. Watt (W) is the SI unit of power. Volt = voltage, Joule = energy, Ampere = current.
Q20 – D) 300,000 km/s. Speed of light in vacuum ≈ 300,000 km/s (3 × 10⁸ m/s). 300, 3,000, 30,000 km/s are far too slow.
Weak-Section Review:
Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise symbols (O, H2O, Au), photosynthesis (CO2 absorbed), planets (Mercury closest, Saturn most moons), cell (mitochondria), boiling point (100°C), Vitamin D (sunlight), heart (pumps blood), RBCs (carry oxygen), units (Ampere current, Watt power), light speed (300,000 km/s). General Ability: practise unitary method, +5 series, percentages, algebra, squares / cubes. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
