Answer Key + Explained Answers:

Q1 – B) Ostrich. Ostrich is the largest bird (up to 2.8 m, 150 kg). Eagle is smaller, penguin is flightless, peacock is smaller.
Q2 – C) Carbon dioxide. Plants absorb CO2 for photosynthesis (and release oxygen). Oxygen is released, nitrogen is inert, hydrogen is trace.
Q3 – C) Sailfish. Sailfish is the fastest animal in water (up to about 110 km/h). Shark is slower, dolphin is slower, whale is slower.
Q4 – B) Gallbladder. Gallbladder stores bile (made by the liver). Liver makes bile, pancreas makes enzymes, spleen filters blood.
Q5 – B) Cu. Copper is Cu (from Latin “cuprum” = copper). Co is cobalt, Cp is not a symbol, Cr is chromium.
Q6 – B) Saturn. Saturn has the most moons (146 confirmed, as of recent counts). Jupiter has 95, Uranus has 28, Neptune has 16.
Q7 – D) Vitamin K. Vitamin K helps blood to clot. Vitamin A (vision), C (immunity), D (bones) do not clot blood.
Q8 – B) Camel. Camel is the “ship of the desert” (carries loads across deserts). Horse, donkey, and elephant are not given this title.
Q9 – B) Make food. Leaves make food (photosynthesis). Roots absorb water, stems support, fruits / seeds store food.
Q10 – B) Femur. Femur (thigh bone) is the longest bone. Tibia is the shin bone, humerus is the arm bone, radius is the forearm bone.
Q11 – C) Rs 400. One shirt = 800 divided by 2 = Rs 400.
Q12 – C) 16. Each term doubles: 1 × 2 = 2, 2 × 2 = 4, 4 × 2 = 8, 8 × 2 = 16. (10, 12, 20 are not ×2.)
Q13 – C) 30. 15% of 200 = 0.15 × 200 = 30.
Q14 – B) 12. w + 8 = 20, so w = 20 – 8 = 12.
Q15 – C) 400. 20 squared = 20 × 20 = 400. (200, 300, 500 are not squares of 20.)
Q16 – C) 125. 5 cubed = 5 × 5 × 5 = 125. (25 = 5 squared, 75 and 150 are not cubes of 5.)
Q17 – B) 3. A triangle has 3 sides. 2 sides cannot make a shape, quadrilateral has 4, pentagon has 5.
Q18 – C) 72. 3 days × 24 hours = 72 hours.
Q19 – C) 170. 80 + 90 = 170.
Q20 – C) 750. 1000 – 250 = 750.

Weak-Section Review:

Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise ostrich (largest bird), CO2 (photosynthesis), sailfish (fastest in water), gallbladder (stores bile), Cu (copper), Saturn (most moons), Vitamin K (blood clotting), camel (ship of desert), leaves (make food), femur (longest bone). General Ability: practise unitary method, doubling series, percentages, algebra, squares / cubes, shapes (triangle 3), time (3 days = 72 hours), addition / subtraction. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
