Answer Key + Explained Answers:
Q1 – B) Blue whale. Blue whale is the largest animal (up to 30 m, 200 tonnes). African elephant is the largest land animal, giraffe is tallest, hippopotamus is smaller.
Q2 – C) Carbon dioxide. Plants absorb CO2 for photosynthesis (and release oxygen). Oxygen is released, nitrogen is inert, hydrogen is trace.
Q3 – B) Cheetah. Cheetah is the fastest land animal (up to about 110 km/h). Lion is slower, horse is slower, deer is slower.
Q4 – B) Lungs. Lungs help us to breathe (exchange oxygen / CO2). Heart pumps blood, liver detoxifies, stomach digests.
Q5 – B) Fe. Iron is Fe (from Latin “ferrum” = iron). Ir is iridium, In is indium, Io is not a symbol.
Q6 – B) Venus. Venus is the “Morning Star” (brightest planet, visible at dawn). Mars is the Red Planet, Jupiter is largest, Mercury is smallest.
Q7 – C) Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps wounds to heal (collagen). Vitamin A (vision), B (energy), D (bones) do not heal wounds.
Q8 – B) Dog. Dog is “man’s best friend” (loyal companion). Cat, horse, and parrot are pets but not given this title.
Q9 – B) Pump blood. Heart pumps blood around the body. Stomach digests food, kidneys filter blood, glands produce hormones.
Q10 – C) Gluteus maximus. Gluteus maximus (buttock) is the largest muscle. Biceps is the arm muscle, triceps is the back arm muscle, deltoid is the shoulder muscle.
Q11 – B) Rs 50. One pen = 250 divided by 5 = Rs 50.
Q12 – B) 10. Each term adds 2: 2 + 2 = 4, 4 + 2 = 6, 6 + 2 = 8, 8 + 2 = 10. (9, 11, 12 are not +2.)
Q13 – C) 100. 25% of 400 = 0.25 × 400 = 100.
Q14 – C) 15. y – 5 = 10, so y = 10 + 5 = 15.
Q15 – C) 625. 25 squared = 25 × 25 = 625. (500, 525, 725 are not squares of 25.)
Q16 – C) 27. 3 cubed = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27. (9 = 3 squared, 18 and 36 are not cubes of 3.)
Q17 – B) 5. A pentagon has 5 sides (penta = five). Quadrilateral has 4, hexagon has 6, heptagon has 7.
Q18 – C) 120. 2 hours × 60 minutes = 120 minutes.
Q19 – C) 170. 90 + 80 = 170.
Q20 – C) 1500. 2000 – 500 = 1500.
Weak-Section Review: Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise blue whale (largest animal), CO2 (photosynthesis), cheetah (fastest land animal), lungs (breathe), Fe (iron), Venus (Morning Star), Vitamin C (wounds), dog (man’s best friend), heart (pump blood), gluteus maximus (largest muscle). General Ability: practise unitary method, +2 series, percentages, algebra, squares / cubes, shapes (pentagon 5), time (2 hours = 120 minutes), addition / subtraction. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
