Answer Key + Explained Answers:
Q1 – C) Rafflesia. Rafflesia (about 1 m diameter) is the largest flower. Rose is small, sunflower is medium, lotus is medium.
Q2 – C) Carbon dioxide. We exhale CO2 (and inhale oxygen). Oxygen is inhaled, nitrogen is inert, hydrogen is trace.
Q3 – C) Peregrine falcon. Peregrine falcon is the fastest animal in the air (over 300 km/h in a dive). Eagle is slower, sparrow is slow, owl is slow.
Q4 – C) Eye. Eye helps us to see. Ear hears, nose smells, tongue tastes.
Q5 – B) Zn. Zinc is Zn. Zi is not a symbol, Zc is not a symbol, Ze is not a symbol.
Q6 – B) Mars. Mars is the "Red Planet" (iron oxide / rust). Venus is the Morning Star, Jupiter is largest, Mercury is smallest.
Q7 – C) Nitrogen. Nitrogen is about 78% of the atmosphere. Oxygen is about 21%, CO2 is trace, hydrogen is trace.
Q8 – B) Cow. Cow gives milk. Dog and cat are pets (do not give milk for humans), hen lays eggs.
Q9 – C) Support the plant. Stem supports the plant (holds leaves, flowers). Roots absorb water, leaves make food, fruits produce seeds.
Q10 – C) Sperm cell. Sperm cell is the smallest cell. Egg cell is the largest, nerve cell is long, red blood cell is small but larger than sperm.
Q11 – B) Rs 100. One book = 400 divided by 4 = Rs 100.
Q12 – B) 60. Each term subtracts 10: 100 – 10 = 90, 90 – 10 = 80, 80 – 10 = 70, 70 – 10 = 60. (50, 65, 75 are not –10.)
Q13 – C) 50. 10% of 500 = 0.10 × 500 = 50.
Q14 – C) 8. a + 4 = 12, so a = 12 – 4 = 8.
Q15 – C) 900. 30 squared = 30 × 30 = 900. (600, 800, 1000 are not squares of 30.)
Q16 – C) 8. 2 cubed = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8. (4 = 2 squared, 6 and 10 are not cubes of 2.)
Q17 – B) 6. A hexagon has 6 sides (hexa = six). Pentagon has 5, heptagon has 7, octagon has 8.
Q18 – C) 14. 2 weeks × 7 days = 14 days.
Q19 – C) 100. 45 + 55 = 100.
Q20 – B) 600. 900 – 300 = 600.
Weak-Section Review: Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise rafflesia (largest flower), CO2 (exhale), peregrine falcon (fastest in air), eye (see), Zn (zinc), Mars (Red Planet), nitrogen (main gas), cow (gives milk), stem (support), sperm cell (smallest cell). General Ability: practise unitary method, –10 series, percentages, algebra, squares / cubes, shapes (hexagon 6), time (2 weeks = 14 days), addition / subtraction. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
