Answer Key + Explained Answers

Q1 – C) Antarctic Desert. Antarctic Desert is the largest cold desert (about 14 million sq km). Sahara is largest hot desert, Gobi is in Asia, Arabian is in Arabia.

Q2 – B) Freon. Freon is used in refrigerators (refrigerant). Oxygen is for breathing, nitrogen is inert, CO2 is exhaled.

Q3 – B) African elephant. African elephant is the largest land mammal. Blue whale is largest mammal overall, giraffe is tallest, hippopotamus is large.

Q4 – D) Tongue. Tongue helps us to taste. Ear hears, nose smells, eye sees.

Q5 – D) Ag. Silver is Ag (from Latin “argentum” = silver). Si is silicon, Sl is not a symbol, Au is gold.

Q6 – B) Venus. Venus has the longest day (about 243 Earth days). Mercury is 59 days, Earth is 24 hours, Mars is 24.6 hours.

Q7 – C) Neon. Neon is used in neon signs (glows red-orange). Oxygen is for breathing, CO2 is exhaled, nitrogen is inert.

Q8 – B) Dog. Dog is known as “man’s best friend”. Cat is a pet, horse is a ride animal, parrot is a talking bird.

Q9 – D) Support the plant. Stems support the plant. Leaves make food, roots absorb water, fruits produce seeds.

Q10 – C) Femur. Femur (thigh bone) is the longest bone. Humerus is arm, tibia is leg, stapes is smallest.

Q11 – B) Rs 10. One pen = 100 divided by 10 = Rs 10.

Q12 – C) 35. Each term adds 7: 7 + 7 = 14, 14 + 7 = 21, 21 + 7 = 28, 28 + 7 = 35. (32, 33, 36 are not +7.)

Q13 – C) 100. 25% of 400 = 0.25 × 400 = 100.

Q14 – C) 10. d + 9 = 19, so d = 19 – 9 = 10.

Q15 – C) 1600. 40 squared = 40 × 40 = 1600. (1200, 1400, 1800 are not squares of 40.)

Q16 – C) 216. 6 cubed = 6 × 6 × 6 = 216. (36 = 6 squared, 180 and 256 are not cubes of 6.)

Q17 – C) 9. A nonagon has 9 sides (nona = nine). Heptagon has 7, octagon has 8, decagon has 10.

Q18 – C) 7. 1 week = 7 days.

Q19 – C) 700. 400 + 300 = 700.

Q20 – B) 600. 800 – 200 = 600.

Weak-Section Review: Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise Antarctic Desert (largest cold desert), freon (refrigerators), African elephant (largest land mammal), tongue (taste), Ag (silver), Venus (longest day), neon (neon signs), dog (man’s best friend), stems (support the plant), femur (longest bone). General Ability: practise unitary method, +7 series, percentages, algebra, squares / cubes, shapes (nonagon 9), time (1 week = 7 days), addition / subtraction. Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
