Answer Key + Explained Answers:
Q1 – B) Venus. Venus is known as the “Morning Star” (and “Evening Star”). Mars is the Red Planet, Jupiter is largest, Saturn is ringed.
Q2 – B) Fe. Fe is the chemical symbol for iron (from ferrum). Ir is iridium, In is indium, I is iodine.
Q3 – C) Newton. Newton is the SI unit of force. Joule is energy, watt is power, pascal is pressure.
Q4 – C) Heart. The heart pumps blood around the body. Liver filters blood, lung exchanges gases, kidney filters waste.
Q5 – C) 100°C. Water boils at 100°C at sea level. 90°C, 95°C, 110°C are wrong.
Q6 – C) Helium. Helium is used in balloons (lighter than air). Oxygen is for breathing, nitrogen is inert, carbon dioxide is heavier.
Q7 – B) Skin. Skin is the largest organ of the human body. Liver is largest internal organ, lung is for breathing, brain is for thinking.
Q8 – C) Cheetah. Cheetah is the fastest land animal (up to 110 km/h). Lion is slower, horse is slower, tiger is slower.
Q9 – B) H2O. H2O is the chemical formula for water. CO2 is carbon dioxide, O2 is oxygen, NaCl is salt.
Q10 – D) Vitamin D. Vitamin D is produced in skin by sunlight. Vitamin A is for vision, vitamin B is for energy, vitamin C is for immunity.
Q11 – C) 30. 15% of 200 = 0.15 × 200 = 30.
Q12 – C) 32. Each term doubles: 2 × 2 = 4, 4 × 2 = 8, 8 × 2 = 16, 16 × 2 = 32. (20, 24, 36 are not ×2.)
Q13 – C) 13. x + 7 = 20, so x = 20 – 7 = 13.
Q14 – B) 12. Square root of 144 = 12 (12 × 12 = 144). 11² = 121, 13² = 169, 14² = 196.
Q15 – C) 132. 12 × 11 = 132. (121 = 11 × 11, 122 is wrong, 142 is wrong.)
Q16 – B) Blue whale. Blue whale is the largest mammal (up to 30 m). African elephant is largest land animal, giraffe is tallest, hippopotamus is third-largest land mammal.
Q17 – C) Mercury. Mercury is the smallest planet. Venus is second, Mars is third, Pluto is a dwarf planet.
Q18 – C) Red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen (haemoglobin). White blood cells fight infection, platelets clot blood, plasma carries cells.
Q19 – A) 0°C. Water freezes at 0°C (32°F). 10°C is above freezing, 32°C is warm, 100°C is boiling.
Q20 – C) 60°. Angles of a triangle sum to 180°: 60° + 60° + ? = 180°, so ? = 60°. (30°, 45°, 90° are wrong.)
Weak-Section Review: Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise Venus (Morning Star), Fe (iron), Newton (force), heart (pumps blood), 100°C (boiling), helium (balloons), skin (largest organ), cheetah (fastest land animal), H2O (water), vitamin D (sunlight). Mathematics: practise percentages, ×2 series, algebra, square roots, multiplication. General Ability / Everyday Science: revise blue whale (largest mammal), Mercury (smallest planet), red blood cells (oxygen), 0°C (freezing), triangle angles (180°). Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
