Answer Key + Explained Answers
Q1 – B) Mars. Mars is known as the Red Planet. Venus is Morning Star, Jupiter is largest, Saturn has rings.
Q2 – B) C. C is the chemical symbol for carbon. Ca is calcium, Co is cobalt, Cr is chromium.
Q3 – C) Kelvin. Kelvin is the SI unit of temperature. Celsius is scale, Fahrenheit is scale, joule is energy.
Q4 – C) Lungs. The lungs are responsible for breathing. Heart pumps blood, liver filters toxins, kidney filters blood.
Q5 – A) 0°C. The freezing point of water is 0°C. 10, 50, 100 are wrong.
Q6 – C) Oxygen. Humans inhale oxygen. Carbon dioxide is exhaled, nitrogen is inert, hydrogen is trace.
Q7 – C) Skin. Skin is the largest organ. Heart is organ, liver is organ, lung is organ — but skin is largest.
Q8 – B) African elephant. African elephant is the largest land animal. Hippopotamus is large, giraffe is tallest, rhinoceros is large — but elephant is largest.
Q9 – B) CO2. CO2 is the chemical formula for carbon dioxide (1 carbon, 2 oxygen). CO is carbon monoxide, O2 is oxygen, C2O is wrong.
Q10 – D) Vitamin K. Vitamin K is good for blood clotting. Vitamin A is for eyesight, vitamin C is for immunity, vitamin D is for bones.
Q11 – C) 60. 40% of 150 = 0.40 × 150 = 60.
Q12 – C) 48. Each term doubles: 3 × 2 = 6, 6 × 2 = 12, 12 × 2 = 24, 24 × 2 = 48. (36, 40, 52 are not ×2.)
Q13 – C) 14. e + 8 = 22, so e = 22 – 8 = 14.
Q14 – C) 64. Cube of 4 = 4 × 4 × 4 = 64. (48 is wrong, 56 is wrong, 72 is wrong.)
Q15 – B) 162. 18 × 9 = 162. (152 is wrong, 172 is wrong, 182 is wrong.)
Q16 – B) Ottawa. Ottawa is the capital of Canada. Toronto is largest city, Vancouver is city, Montreal is city.
Q17 – B) Australia. Australia is the smallest continent. Europe is second-smallest, Antarctica is fifth, Africa is second-largest.
Q18 – B) 98.6°F. Normal body temperature is 98.6°F. 97.6, 99.6, 100.6 are wrong.
Q19 – C) Tungsten. Tungsten is the hardest metal. Iron is hard, steel is hard, aluminium is soft — but tungsten is hardest.
Q20 – C) 32. Perimeter of square = 4 × side = 4 × 8 = 32. (24 is wrong, 28 is wrong, 36 is wrong.)
Weak-Section Review
Which section did you score lowest in? Write the 3 questions you missed, the correct answers, and one line for each explaining why. General Science: revise Mars (Red Planet), C (carbon), Kelvin (temperature), lungs (breathing), 0°C (freezing point), oxygen (inhaled), skin (largest organ), African elephant (largest land animal), CO2 (carbon dioxide), vitamin K (blood clotting). Mathematics: practise percentages, ×2 series, algebra, cubes, multiplication. General Ability / Everyday Science: revise Ottawa (Canada), Australia (smallest continent), 98.6°F (body temperature), tungsten (hardest metal), square perimeter (4 × side). Re-attempt this set in 2 days.
